This posting involves an important knowledge and skill area for court leaders: budgeting and fiscal management. This competency is thoroughly described in the National Association for Court Management (NACM) CORE© Competencies, and may be studied at https://nacmcore.org/core/.

Not all leaders enjoy the responsibility for the court budget and financial practices (not all of us are numbers gurus). However, the ability to know about and oversee budget information remains a leader responsibility. Budget responsibilities have increased importance and visibility – due to the heightened need for public/government leaders to account for the use of public resources, the expanded use of and ability to obtain court performance information, and an ongoing focus on ensuring effective and efficient court functions.

Enjoy review of this competency. The next posting on this site will expand upon budget and fiscal management as “being all about the mission.” Although it may not be within our native skill area, we can be skilled with budgeting and fiscal management.
