I have previously written posts on the topic of court leader resilience, leadership under stress, and the different roles that court leaders may play. This posting includes an article written for the International Association for Court Administration (IACA) in October/Fall 2023, in the association newsletter “The Court Administrator.” This article is about the “soft skill” of court leadership resilience. Included in the article are descriptions of the differences between “hard” and “soft skills,” the different roles played by court leaders, a sampling of challenges or factors faced by court leaders, and resilience ideas and strategies.
I have been fortunate to present several workshops on this topic over the last year. This article provides a good synopsis of the content from those workshops. Included here is a screen shot of the cover page of the article, and the full article (in PDF).
A note of thanks and attribution is offered to the IACA for the original publication of this article. This article may be found via the association website at https://www.iaca.ws/the-court-administrator#publications . Current issues are available on the main webpage; archived editions may be accessed by IACA members.

An excellent article and on point, Janet! Resilience was never as important as it is now in the Court Administration role and we senior managers have a responsibility to teach and model these soft skills to new and potential leaders. I always enjoy your articles.
